Don Miller, Ward 2 Alderman | City of Watseka
City of Watseka Code Enforcement Committee met Oct. 14.
Here are the minutes provided by the committee:
PRESENT: Aldermen Brault, Pence, Petersen, Muench, Miller, Garfield, Alderwoman Rohlfs and Mayor Marcier
ABSENT: Alderman Dewitt
GUEST: Building Inspector Eric Brandt
Alderman Brault opened the meeting at 6:36 pm. There was no public comment. Building Inspector Eric Brant reported on the following:
122 W Herron Ct: Eric stated the zoning committee met on October 30th about this garage addition. The owner was requesting a zero set back. The zoning committee wanted a 12- inch set back due to the flood mitigation lot next to his lot. The owner is ok with the 12-inch set back. This will come before full council later this month.
IDNR Flood: Eric stated he is still waiting on a reimbursement of $119,000, but it should be coming soon.
100 W Walnut St: -The discussion was about demolishing the Penney’s building. Eric stated the bracing for the party wall on the west side needs to be done first. The proposal from SKS Engineers was $6,111.50, this is only for the design portion. It was suggested to talk to Robinson to see if they have engineers in-house to give a proposal. It was also stated the owner of the next-door building is refusing to let anyone into her building to look at the roof. Eric stated there is no party wall agreement in effect. Eric stated he will try to talk to the business owner next door to see if she would let him in. A motion was made to accept the proposal from SKS Engineering, and the motion was tabled until Robinson Engineering is contacted.
522 E Elm St: this is the Berry Processing business, they would like to rezone the property from R-4 to M-1, for possible sale in the future. The zoning committee met 10/6 with an amended petition that would remove the house and the rear property. The zoning committee was ok with this, but the city attorney stated you can not mix zoning on the same parcel. He suggested making it all M-1 because housing is allowed in M-1. This was suggested to the owner, but no response has been made yet.
118 W Walnut St: Scrapbooking business. Nicor detected a leak inside the building and after a closer look the building is in bad shape. Parts of the building in the alley are in poor condition and water has been leaking inside. The owner has been contacted, and they will be demolishing the building very soon.
S 4th & Adams Ave: Alderman Petersen asked about the brush hanging over the sidewalk, Eric stated he got ahold of the homeowner, and he will be trimming it soon.
There was a short discussion about a chicken problem on Lincoln Ave, but it has been resolved, and the chickens are gone.
Alderman Miller makes a motion to adjourn at 7:00 pm and Alderwoman Rohlfs seconded. Roll call carried 8-0.
