The Illinois Recycling Association gave Kankakee Community College the 2015 Outstanding Recycling Education Partner award Oct. 7.
The award was given to honor KCC's Sustainable Resource Management certificate program, which requires that two classes (Introduction to Sustainable Resource Management and Sustainable Resource Management II) be taken.
The courses cover government's responsibility in sustainable resource management, markets that use recovered products, career opportunities, designing and using sustainable strategies for different organizations and using metrics in "green" business.
Both classes were launched after KCC received an Illinois Green Economy Network Career Pathways grant.
Bert Jacobson, dean of environmental and institutional sustainability, accepted the award on the university's behalf. KCC is one of nine award recipients of the Illinois Recycling Association.
The introductory classes will next be offered at KCC in the fall 2016 semester. More information can be obtained by calling 815-802-8854 or e-mailing pcarlson@kcc.edu.
