For the first time, Bradley University participated in the worldwide giving campaign known as #GivingTuesday.
#GivingTuesday piggybacks on the enthusiasm of major spending holidays, such as Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, and puts the focus on giving to individuals in need and organizations whose work benefits the public good.
Bradley officials said the school chose to participate, in part, to continue the legacy of giving that started when the university's founder, Lydia Moss Bradley, created the school with a gift in 1897.
Donations made to the school during #GivingTuesday will help fund scholarships for Bradley students. The school promoted its donation campaign by tweeting updates and videos throughout the day and promised stunts if the campaign meets any of its several benchmarks. For a certain amount of donations, one administrator will have to wear his pajamas all day and another will have to show off his dancing prowess.
As of 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, the school had recruited 996 donors.
