Momence Mayor Mick Porter issued a reminder to city residents Monday about the state's new vehicle registration policy.
To save money, the state is transitioning away from sending out paper registration renewal reminders by mail; residents can now go to www.ilsos.gov/greenmail to sign up for electronic reminders using the ID and PIN found on their Registration ID card.
Online renewals can also be conducted through the License Renewal page on the same website using the same login information.
Porter encouraged residents who cannot find their registration card or who need a new one to call 800-252-8980 and speak with the state's Public Inquiry Division.
In spite of the new changes, residents are still fully responsible for driving with valid registration and license plates and face fines if caught driving without them.
