The Momence board held an emergency meeting Dec. 8 in the Council Chambers to address a public reporting requirement that was not addressed when the board approved the village's estimated tax levy amount at its meeting the night before.
A stipulation required by the Truth in Taxation law requires municipalities to estimate the amount of a tax levy at least 20 days prior to voting on it. The board did approve that estimate Dec. 7, but the language of that motion did not include the specific amounts of the levy.
The proposed levy amount is $415,266, an increase of 4.99 percent or $19,737.
The meeting was adjourned after five minutes.
