The Kankakee planning board has granted the necessary variances for a new in-home daycare.
The City of Kankakee planning board met Jan. 26 at the Donald E. Green Public Safety Center.
The board deferred action for a second time on the request for a permit for an outdoor advertising sign at 239 E. Court St., while the county continues working on changes to its sign ordinance.
The board discussed granting a set of variances for the building of a home at 703 S. Lincoln St. that would clear the way for a conditional use permit allowing a day care center for up to 12 children to be operated at that address.
City officials confirmed there is a similarly styled daycare center operated on the 1000 block of South Lincoln Street.
The board granted variances for lot line setbacks, building size and parking. However, the board tabled discussion of the conditional use permit for the daycare itself until it could see more information on the state's requirements for home-based daycare businesses and compare with the proposed plan.
