Momence City Council votes on retirement resolution

The Momence City Council met Oct. 17 to vote on a retirement resolution.

Here are the meeting's minutes, as provided by the council:

The City council meeting of the city of Momence was held in the Council chambers at 29 N. Dixie Highway, Momence. Mayor Mick Porter called the meeting to order.

Roll call

Roll was called by the clerk with Alderman Denton, Navratil, Nova Metz, Steele, Rehmer, Cook, Lesyna and John Metz present. Also present was Mayor Mick Porter.

Approval of previous meeting minutes

Alderman Cook made a motion to approve the regular and executive session minutes of the October 3, 2016, council meeting as presented. Alderman Denton seconded the motion with Alderman Denton, Navratil, Nova Metz, Rehmer, Cook, Lesyna and John Metz voting yes. Alderman Steele passed.

Approval of the bills

The bills were discussed at tonight's budget and finance committee meeting. Alderman Denton made a motion to approve the bills for payment. Alderman Rehmer seconded the motion with Aldermen Denton, Navratil, Nova Metz, Steele, Rehmer, Cook, Lesyna and John Metz voting yes.

Aldemanic reports

Alderman Denton called a budget and finance meeting for 7:15OM on 11/7, to discuss bills to be paid and the tax levy.

Alderman Steele: Scott Behrends not here tonight and wanted to make council aware that last brush pick up will be on November 1, leaves will be picked up as needed.

Alderman Lesyna: Discuss and vote on part-time police officers. Alderman Lesyna made a motion to hire cadets Nathan Hess and Aaron Cavendar. Alderman Cook seconded the motion with Alderman Denton, Navratil, Nova Metz, Rehmer, Cook and Lesyna voting yes. Alderman Steele and John Metz voted no.

Department Head Reports - None

Treasurer report - Treasurer Becky Peterson - Absent

Mayoral Report

Discuss and vote Trick or treat hours 4:30-7:00PM. Alderman Rehmer made a motion to approve trick of treat hours for 4:30 -7:00PM. Alderman Denton seconded the motion. Motion carried with 8 ayes 0 nays.

Discuss and vote on IDOT obligation retirement resolution. Annual resolution regarding MFT alternate revenue bond, payment comes from MFT each year. To be filed with County Clerk. Alderman Denton made a motion to approve the IDOT obligation retirement resolution. Alderman Lasyna seconded the motion with Alderman Denton, Navratil, Nova Metz, Steele, Rehmer, Cook, Lesyna and John Metz voting yes. Resolution #188.

Mayor Porter stated that on 10/25 there will be an open meeting regarding US fish and wildlife for the proposed marsh refuge along the Kankakee River. Proposed to take up a large amount of Momence Township. Share materials, take questions from audience. Chad Miller with Farm Bureau to share their thoughts on this proposed refuge. To be held from 5-9PM at Momence High School Auditorium.

City clerk called executive minutes review for November 7 after council meeting.

Executive session - None

Alderman Denton made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Alderman Lesyna seconded the motion with Alderman Denton, Navratil, Nova Metz, Steele, Rehmer, Cook, Lesyna and John Metz voting yes. Meeting adjourned at 7:42P.M.
