On May 9, 2025, Kelly criticized the firing of Dr. Carla Hayden from her position as Librarian of Congress by President Trump. She emphasized the importance of libraries as gateways to knowledge and opportunity, stating "Libraries open up a world of possibilities, knowledge, and opportunity for people to explore different walks of life." Kelly called the dismissal "shameful," highlighting Dr. Hayden's understanding of this role.
In another post dated May 10, 2025, Kelly condemned President Trump's decision to cancel grants allocated for community violence intervention programs. She mentioned discussions with @CJACTIONFUND regarding the reinstatement of these funds and offered her support to community violence intervention workers: "To all CVI workers: I see you. I hear you. I’m fighting for you."
On May 12, 2025, Kelly shared sentiments about Edan Alexander's return home after experiencing significant hardship. She urged for continued efforts in releasing hostages and providing closure for families affected by conflicts in Gaza: "We must secure a lasting peace in Gaza."
Born in New York City in 1956 and currently residing in Matteson, Robin Kelly has been an influential figure since graduating from Bradley University with a BA in 1977.
