Robin Kelly, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Illinois’ 2nd district since 2013, recently addressed healthcare issues in a series of social media posts. Kelly, who succeeded Jesse Jackson Jr., has focused her recent commentary on Medicaid cuts and their impact on vulnerable populations.
On July 10, 2025, Kelly announced her participation in a townhall event in New Orleans with Representatives Jeffries, Troy Carter, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and Nanette Barragán. In her post she stated: "I’m leading a townhall in New Orleans on Trump’s Big, Ugly Betrayal with @RepJeffries, @RepTroyCarter, @RepDWStweets & @RepBarragan. We’ll be in the home state of Speaker Johnson to tell Louisianans exactly who stole their healthcare."
Later that day, Kelly commented on legislative developments regarding Medicaid. She wrote: "Last week, President Trump signed into law a historic $1 trillion cut to Medicaid, stealing healthcare from 17 million Americans. Republicans betrayed their own constituents, and the people deserve answers. Watch our townhall LIVE tonight at 6 p.m. CT." This statement was posted on July 10, 2025.
On July 11, 2025, Kelly addressed the implications of Medicaid reductions amid ongoing public health concerns. She stated: "Republicans cut Medicaid as we face a maternal mortality crisis. Their actions will have deadly consequences. I talked with @Politico’s @cheyannamarie97 about Black maternal health and how we can continue to advance reproductive justice:"
Kelly was born in New York City in 1956 and currently resides in Matteson. She holds a BA from Bradley University (1977) and previously served in the Illinois House of Representatives from 2003 to 2007.
