Robin Kelly, a U.S. Congress member representing Illinois' 2nd district since 2013, has been vocal on various pressing issues through her social media posts. Born in New York City in 1956 and residing in Matteson, Kelly has served in Congress after replacing Jesse Jackson Jr. and previously held a position in the Illinois House of Representatives from 2003 to 2007.
On July 7, 2025, Robin Kelly addressed the issue of gun violence following a tragic incident over the Fourth of July weekend in Chicago. She reported that "Over the 4th of July weekend, 8 people were fatally shot and 39 more were injured in Chicago." She expressed her commitment to combating gun violence by stating, "This isn’t freedom," and vowed to continue her efforts until public safety is ensured everywhere.
In another tweet dated July 9, 2025, Kelly highlighted concerns regarding measles outbreaks. She stated that "We eliminated measles 25 years ago." However, she noted an alarming resurgence with "1,277 reported cases this year." Kelly attributed this increase to declining vaccination rates under an anti-vaccination Health Secretary.
On July 10, 2025, Kelly focused on economic disparities affecting Black women. She remarked that "Black women know our own worth." Despite this acknowledgment of self-worth, she pointed out the wage gap where "a Black woman only earns 66 cents for every dollar a white man earns." On Black Women Equal Pay Day, she reaffirmed her dedication to addressing these inequities.
Robin Kelly's academic background includes graduating from Bradley University with a BA in 1977.
