Bradley Public Library District Board of Trustees adopts personnel policy

Bradley Public Library District Board of Trustees met Wednesday, Jan. 18.

The Bradley Public Library District is governed by an unpaid 7 member elected board of trustees. Terms are 6 years with no term limits. Elections are held during the Local Consolidated Election in April of odd numbered years. Requirements are residency within the Bradley Public Library District boundaries and current voter registration.

January 18, 2017

President Bayer called the regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of Bradley Public Library District to order at 6:02 p.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2017.

Present: Bayer, Grace, Longtin, Benoit and Richardson

Absent: Hendrickson, and Rodgers

Also present: J. DePatis, Director, and J. Ponton, Recording Secretary

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Moved by Trustee Richardson, seconded by Trustee Longtin, that

MINUTES OF THE NOV 16, 2016 MEETING APPROVAL

SESSION BE APPROVED AS SUBMITTED OF MINUTES

Motion carried by unanimous vote

PUBLIC COMMENT - None

TREASURER’S REPORT

Correction – Treasurer’s report should be have been for October

Moved by Trustee Richardson, seconded by Trustee Grace, that

TREASURER’S REPORT FOR NOV AND ACCEPT DEC. BE ACCEPTED AS SUBMITTED TREASURER’S REPORT

Motion carried by roll call vote of 5 ayes, 0 nays and 2 absent

PAYMENT OF BILLS

Correction – Payment of bills should have been for October

Moved by Trustee Richardson, seconded by Trustee Benoit, that:

BILLS TOTALLING $15,130.56 PAYMENT

BE ALLOWED AND PAID FOR DECEMBER OF BILLS

Motion carried by roll call vote of 5 ayes, 0 nays and 2 absent

November bills will be paid at the February meeting.

DIRECTOR’S REPORT - [copy attached hereto]

39 new readers were registered and 7,935 items were issued in November.

Receipts: $279.57 fines on overdue books - $226.00 – fax - $631.05 – copies – $79.27 - lost/damage – $929.31 – Friends - $204.00 – other. Expenses: $85.50

30 new readers were registered and 6,531 items were issued in December.

Receipts: $576.57 fines on overdue books - $221.00 – fax - $426.40 – copies – $25.00 –

lost/damage – $140.00 – fee cards - $48.10 – other.

Director DePatis stated the following:

Personnel:

Hired 2 new part time circulation staff: Jonalee Lucas and Dorothy Robinson. Reduction of some employee’s hours necessitated the hiring of new clerks.

Deb Boersma celebrated 15 years of service in December 2016.

Grants: Fiscal year 2017 per capita grant completed including fiscal year 2015 expenditure

Report.

Legal: Fiscal year 2015 – 2016 annual report of receipts and disbursements has been completed and filed with Kankakee County Clerk.

Calendar year 2017 meeting dates and availability of fiscal year 2015 – 2016 audit notices were published in the Daily Journal.

Annual library certification form for 2017 was completed for the Illinois State Library. April 4, 2017 consolidated election certification of ballot filed with Kankakee County Clerk.

Continuing Education:

Jon Shinabarger attended a webinar on Wolfram/Alpha search engine.

Marie Cowden and Kris Kanowski attended a LACONI program entitled Customer Service

Tips and Tricks at Naperville Public Library.

Director DePatis and Betty Chapman attended a LACONI presentation on Measuring our Success or Not about PLA’s Project Outcome at the Elmwood Park Public Library.

Director DePatis, Betty Chapman, and Olivia Koerner attended a webinar entitled Sure Best Bets on readers advisory services.

Director DePatis attended a Management Association webinar on the Top 10 Employment Law Issues for Libraries in 2017.

Miscellaneous:

A link to genre and general library newsletters has been added to the Library’s website. These are created through Library Aware.

Ordered 6 additional staff lockers and installed 3 industrial shelving units in the storage area.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

The Friends of the Library met on January 4, 2017 at 6:30PM. With the continuation of the Healthy Living Series, yoga classes will begin in January. Silent auction baskets and the Craft Show were quite successful. A purchase request was made by Director DePatis for six 6 foot

by 24 foot inch tables on wheels. Next meeting will be held on February 1st at 6:30PM.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:

Trustees Benoit will be up for re-election in 2017 with one trustee opening in May.

January 23, 2017 will be a staff-in-service day featuring Becky Spratford who will present an all day workshop on “RA for All”.

NEW BUSINESS:

Trustee Benoit, secretary for the Bradley Public Library, has reviewed the closed meeting minutes and states that the minutes should remain closed.

Director Depatis informed the trustees to expect their Statements of Economic Interest shortly.

Moved by Trustee Bayer, seconded by Trustee Grace to adopt Personnel Policy: Meal and Break Periods revision

Motion carried by roll call vote of 5 ayes, 0 nays and 2 absent

Discussion was held on alternative possibilities for DVD carousel replacement.

COMMUNICATIONS:

A thank you was received from Kathy Lake thanking the board for the Holiday meal and bonus.

Trust Richardson discussed the comfort of the Library’s computer chairs.

Trustee Longtin moved for adjournment at 6:44PM
