Kankakee’s Riverside Medical Center earned the 2017 "Heliport of the Year" award from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) on Thursday, according to a press release.
The medical center was one of six winners of the agency's annual "Airport of the Year" awards, which were announced at the Illinois Aviation Conference in Champaign.
The other facilities honored were Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois in Marion, Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling, Macomb Municipal Airport in Macomb, Sparta Community Airport in Sparta and Tri-County Airport in Elmwood.
The half-dozen aircraft sites garnered praise for their achievements over the year, including their work with IDOT and focus on customer comfort, the release said.
“The support and commitment of our state’s aviation community helps Illinois to strengthen its status as the transportation hub of North America,” IDOT Secretary Randy Blankenhorn said in a statement. “These awards are our way of recognizing the tremendous dedication exhibited by airports and heliports throughout Illinois. Our sincere congratulations go out to all of this year’s recipients.”
