While Illinois legislators might not agree on what's best for state, they came together to support Rep. Lindsay Parkhurst's (R-Kankakee) resolution to support the country.
"State and local governments should buy American steel," Parkhurst said in promoting HR372, according to a press release. "It will support the expansion of American manufacturing, support growth of the American steel industry, maximize job creation and stimulate economic growth."
In a video of her speech, Parkhurst further implored the Legislature to spend the state's tax dollars on American iron and steel because of the employment opportunities it creates.
“It helps undercut China's predatory and anti-market policy, which is undermining the American steel industry,” Parkhurst said.
The resolution, which adopted by the House, was cosponsored by seven Democrats. Parkhurst said she initiated the resolution on behalf of Nucor Steel, which is in her district.
