The average Kankakee County family of four would pay approximately $9 more a month for water under Aqua Illinois' requested rate increase, the County Board posted on Facebook recently.
A single person would see a monthly increase of approximately $2.49, to $33.94, and an average couple would pay $44.84 a month, up from $40.09, according to the water company's flier the county posted. The price-per-gallon increase ranges from 13 cent on the low end for families of four to 31 cents on the high end for individuals.
In an explanatory note, Aqua Illinois explained that it has requested these rate increases with the Illinois Commerce Commission based on the amount it has invested in Illinois water infrastructure, which it puts at $36 million, or $1,250 per household.
The Kankakee County Board urged viewers of its post to contact board representatives if they have opinions on the rate increases.
