Kankakee County Board of Parks and Recreation met June 29.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

Call to Order: Trustee Keast called the meeting to order of the Parks and Recreation Committee on June 29, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. in the Administration Office Meeting Room.

1. Roll Call Committee Chairman Keast called the roll with the following Trustees present: President Schore, Trustee Amiano, Trustee Greenlee, Trustee Fischer, Trustee Keast, and Trustee Littrell. Also in attendance were Village Treasurer Ron Riebe, Public Works Director Mike Chamness, Finance Director Mike Wolf, Village Attorney Mike Van Mill, Village Engineer Dave Tyson, Village Attorney Pat Dunn, Bourbonnais Park District Director Hollice Clark.

2. Approval of Minutes: March 30, 2016

A motion was made by Trustee Littrell and seconded by Trustee Fischer to approve the committee meeting minutes as presented. Motion passed on a voice vote of

3. New Business:

a. Overview of Skate Park: Village Administrator Mike Van Mill presented a layout of the proposed Skate Park 130' x 60' pad and apparatus. Information distributed with sample bid notification and project timelines. President Paul Schore reviewed historical attempts to create a more permanent structure for Friendship Festival tent. Tentative figures were discussed to build a pad, but were determined to be cost prohibitive. More recent discussions with the Park District Director Hollice Clark revealed a potential partnership between the Village and Park District to create a multi-use pad, for the beer tent during Friendship Festival, and then a year-round specialty park. Additional consulting with the Friendship Festival Director and Hitchcock Design Group, evolved into a preliminary outline of a skate park pad and equipment, with the ability to convert to winter skating during cold weather. Hitchcock Design prepared a ballpark project estimate of S260,000. Park District tentatively agreed to fund 50% of the project.

b. Approval to publish Notice of bid for Skate Park: Trustee Fischer made a motion to recommend that the Invitation to Bid (Event and Skate Plaza) be published in the Daily Journal July 5, 2016, and seconded by Trustee King. Motion passed on a voice vote of 6-0.

c. BMX Track request: Information distributed on BMX track development that would be funded by the Village of Bourbonnais. 5 acres of land required. Committee tabled discussion without taking action.

4. Old Business: None

5. Public Comments: Public Works Director Mike Chamness stated that he is supportive of the Skate Park project, but disappointed that he was not consulted.

6. Adjournment and Time

A motion was made by Trustee Littrell and seconded by Trustee Greenlee to adjourn the committee meeting. Motion passed on a voice vote of 6-0 and the meeting adjourned at 5:57 p.m.
