Kankakee County residents have been targeted by services offering them copies of their property deeds and profiles even though those items can already be accessed cheaply through the county, according to a press release from Kankakee County Recorder Lori Gadbois.
“This is not new, it has been going on for years and too many people are being taken advantage of,” Gadbois said in the release. “These solicitations are all the same just worded differently. Every solicitation states it will provide an individual with a copy of their deed and a property profile. All of this information can be found on the homeowner’s tax bill or the deed itself which is filed with the recorder’s office."
Gadbois explained that property owners can get non-certified copies of their deeds for 50 cents per page or certified copies at a higher fee, but not anywhere near the $87 demanded by services like Illinois Deed Providers, Record Retrieval and Record Recovery Service.

“People need to be aware that these solicitations come from a third party and are not associated or condoned by the recorder’s office,” Gadbois said in the release.
Those wishing to get a copy of their deed can visit the Kankakee County recorder’s office at the County Administration Building at 189 E. Court St., Kankakee.
