Bradley Public Library District Board of Trustees met Aug. 23.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

President Bayer called the regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of Bradley Public Library District to order at 6:02 p.m. Wednesday, August 23, 2017.

Present: Bayer, Grace, Rodgers, Benoit, Hendrickson, Fisher(late) and Richardson

Absent: none

Also present: J. DePatis, Director and J. Ponton, Recording Secretary

Approval Of Minutes

Moved by Trustee Rodgers, seconded by Trustee Hendrickson, that

Minutes Of The July 19, 2017 Meeting Approval Session Be As Submitted

Public Comment - None

Treasurer’s Report

Moved by Trustee Richardson, seconded by Trustee Grace, that

Treasurer’s Report For July Be Accepted As Submitted

Vendor Payments Moved by Trustee Richardson, seconded by Trustee Grace, that:

Director’s Report - [copy attached hereto]

50 new readers were registered and 7,538 items were issued in July.

Receipts: $629.19 fines on overdue books - $291.00 – fax - $692.80 – copies – $71.25 – other.

Expenses: $86.36

Director DePatis stated the following:

National Night Out – Betty Chapman, Rai Dominguez, Colton Lucas. Olivia Koerner, Chris Temple, Trustee Benoit, Trustee Grace and Trustee Bayer represented the Bradley Public Library. They distributed 300 balloons during the course of the evening.

Village of Bradley’s 125th celebration was attended by Director DePatis, Betty Chapman, Chris Temple and volunteers Paige and Cole DePatis. The Bradley Public Library furnished 350 buttons for the event. The library provided 5 big games for the children to play.

Director DePatis attended the PrairieCat Delegates meeting on July 26th via Go To Meeting. Betty Chapman attended the Illinois Reading Council conference on July 19th and 20th.

The following staff members attended an all-day staff development program at Coal City High School presented by Three Rivers Public Library, Coal City Public Library and Fossil Ridge Public Library: Betty Chapman, Marie Cowden, Director DePatis, Chris Temple, Jonalee Lucas and Marlena Kalafut. Topics covered were reader’s advisory and customer service.

PrairieCat Training:

Marlena Kalafut took a webinar on interlibrary loan module. Director DePatis took a webinar on “Decision Center” which creates reports in PrairieCat. Chris Temple attended 3 webinars on “Coding In Libraries”.

Miscellaneous:

Northern Illinois Food Bank held last family pantry from 11:30AM to 1:30PM on August 9th.

The summer food program served 1,772 lunches and 106 breakfasts during the summer. This was 300 more lunches than what was served last year.

Purchased new train table and cushions for a children’s reading area with a memorial for Pat Bell from Leonard and Gale Boudreau and from the monies from the Kankakee Emblem Club.

Recycled old staff refrigerator with ComEd and received a $50.00 check.

Received $1,000. from RAILS for a youth services continuing education workshop by Jim Gill to be held at the Bradley Public Library on August 25th.

Staffing:

Hired 2 new staff members to assist with youth and some adult programming: Chris Temple who has been working at the library for 7 years and helped with summer programs last 4 years and received his BS in teaching last December. Ranae Seubrook Bruce has worked in libraries for the past 16 years in a variety of positions including circulation tech, programming at Limestone Township Library and Evanston Public Library and as a student worker at Olivet Nazarene University.

Turned 1 study room into an office for Betty Chapman so that she would be able to complete the tasks required of her new position without interruption.

Committee Reports

The Friends of the Library met on August 2, 2017 at 6:30PM. The raffle earned $245 but the actual cost of the prizes exceeded $150. Is was decided that a silent auction was a better choice for a fund raiser than a raffle. The Friends voted to donate $700. towards the purchase of new state books for the library. The Friends have also decided to take over the Gingerbread House event. The Friends also hope to resume the sponsorship of the Healthy Living Series. Next meeting will be on October 4, 2017 at 6:30PM.

Personal Committee:

The director’s evaluation was distributed to the trustees to complete and return by Sept. 1, 2017.

Unfinished Business:

Bradley National Night Out was held on August 1, 2017 at Perry Farm. Betty Chapman, Rai Deminguey, Colton Lucas. Olivia Koerner, Chris Temple, Trustee Benoit, Trustee Grace and Trustee Bayer represented the Bradley Public Library at the event.

Village of Bradley’s 125th celebration was held on Saturday, August 19th. Director DePatis, Betty Chapman, Chris Temple and volunteers Paige and Cole DePatis provided 5 big games for the children to play.

New Business:

Moved by Trustee Grace, seconded by Trustee Rodgers to accept the Ordinance Providing for Budget & Appropriations of the Bradley Public Library District for the Fiscal Year Beginning July 1, 2018 and Ending June 30, 2019.

Motion carried by roll call vote of 7 ayes, 0 nays and 0 absent

The options for health insurance renewal were distributed to each trustee to review. Renewal will be voted on at the next board meeting. Director DePatis will also prepare a comparison of budget versus increased cost.

Treasurer’s bond has been renewed.

Moved by Trustee Bayer, seconded by Trustee Rodgers to exchange Veterans Day(Nov 11) for the day after Thanksgiving(Nov 24)

Motion carried by roll call vote of 7 ayes, 0 nays and 0 absent

Moved by Trustee Rodgers, seconded by Trustee Grace to close the Bradley Public Library on December 23rd, 24th and 25th plus December 31st and January 1st.

Motion carried by roll call vote of 7 ayes, 0 nays and 0 absent

Trustees were informed that the annual holiday party would be held on Sunday, December 3rd.

Trustee Benoit will contact Quality Inn to check availability and the menu offerings.

Trustee Hendrickson moved for adjournment at 7:13PM

Next Bradley Public Library District Board meeting will be held Wednesday September 20, 2017 at 6:00 PM
