Manteno CUSD 5 Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment Committee met Sept. 5.

Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:

1) Introductions

2) Professional Development Sign-in Sheets

a. Team leaders received PD sign-in sheets and were asked to look over them for errors.

3) Public Library Update

a. Brochures with upcoming programs were shared.

b. The Friends of the Manteno Public Library will host a book sale. The sale starts on September 21 with a preview night for members and continues through Friday and Saturday.

c. A Mad Science night will be held on October 18th at 6:00 at the Leo Hassett Center. The program is for students in grades K-8.

d. One Book, One Community will celebrate Jane Austin Thursday, October 26th.

4) Building and Community Updates

a. Cathy Creek recently attended the Title Director Conference. A speaker mentioned the importance of being positive and loving what we do.

b. Each team leader spoke of something positive in regards to the start of the school year as well as a focus for the 2017-2018 school year.

5) Teachers Change Lives 24/7

a. Teachers Change Lives will be this year’s book focus for the CIA committee.

b. This month’s takeaways included; students generally meet the level of expectations that are set for them, recognize students for accomplishments like citizenship, maintain a positive reinforcement self-esteem checklist, and find a balance between home and school.

6) Review Goals for 2017-18

a. Team leaders reviewed their goals for the 2016-2017 school year.

7) September 22nd Full Day In-service

a. The day will run from 8:00-3:00 with a 1 hour lunch. The rest of the time is left for team leaders to plan. Agendas (where applicable) should include; follow up from MVP math workshop, PARCC data reflection, math curriculum adoption.

Other suggestions include; update curriculum maps, SAT and PSAT data, SLO meetings with admin, LINKS curriculum work.

b. A one hour Google Drive training will be hosted at each building. This training is not mandatory.

c. Agendas should be turned in to Cathy by Tuesday, September 19th.

8) Upcoming Carousel Topics

a. The December institute will include carousel sessions. The district would like to offer at least 10 sessions. Team leaders should share topic ideas with Cathy Creek.
