Manteno Community Unit School District 5 Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment Committee met March 8.
Here is the agenda provided by the Committee:
1) Introductions- No New Attendees
2) Public Library Update
a. The library will host an Arm Knitting Workshop on March 21st.
b. The Annual Coloring Contest entry forms have been sent home with elementary students.
c. National Library Day will be celebrated on April 12th.
d. The library wrote a grant for a potential Pre-K through 2nd grade STEM program that would begin in the fall.
e. The library will be closed on March 15th for staff development.
3) Building and Community Updates
a. Team leaders gave updates on each grade level.
4) Teachers Change Lives 24/7
a. Pick one student in need and create a vision for a change that needs to occur.
b. Focus on one characteristic or trait you’d like to change about yourself and make a personal goal.
c. Create steps to make these visions a reality.
5) April 27th Activities
a. The Manteno Police Department will host a 3 hour hands on safety training. Paraprofessionals are invited to attend this presentation.
b. A representative will be here to present on the new Flexible Spending Accounts. The presentation will last approximately 45 minutes and open enrollment will start on May 1st.
c. The remainder of the day is team time.
6) Adjusted Calendar for 2017-18
a. June 1st will be a School Improvement Day (in place of February 9th).
b. June 4th will be the closing Institute Day.
7) Team Leaders for 2018-19
a. An additional Team Leader position will be added at elementary school for the 2018-2019 school year.
b. All Team Leader positions will be open to new candidates for the 2018-2019 school year. All interested applicants will be able to apply. Current team leaders are encouraged to have collaborative discussions with their teams about the positions.
c. If a team leader no longer wants to serve as a team leader, he/she should let administration know.
8) Other
a. 2016-2017 Illinois Science Assessment results will be sent home.
b. Teachers are encouraged not to request two Title II work days back to back.
c. Summer curriculum proposals are due March 23rd. Elementary staff should not write proposals for summer curriculum work on the new math series. Professional Development will be provided to all teachers.
d. CIA Meeting dates and times may change for the 2018-2019 school year in order to resolve conflict with MEA meetings.
