Bradley Public Library District Board of Trustees met January 17.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

President Bayer called the regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of Bradley Public Library District to order at 6:02 p.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2018.

Present: Bayer, Fisher, Benoit, Grace and Hendrickson

Absent: Rodgers and Richardson

Also present: J. DePatis, Director and J. Ponton, Recording Secretary

Approval Of Minutes:

Moved by Trustee Hendrickson, seconded by Trustee Bayer, that

Minutes Of The Nov. 15, 2017 Meeting Session Be Approved As Submitted

Treasurer’s Report:

35 new readers were registered and 7,564 items were issued in November.

Receipts: $563.52 fines on overdue books - $389.00 – fax - $583.00 – copies – $48.02 – lost/ damaged – $220.00 - program fees - $32.00 - donations - $31.75 – other.

33 new readers were registered and 6,577 items were issued in December.

Receipts: $703.21 fines on overdue books - $356.00 – fax - $506.20 – copies – $94.50 – lost/ damaged – $20.00 - donations - $17.75 – other.

The Library Director’s Report For December Accepted

Director DePatis stated the following:

Continuing Ed:

Chris Temple completed a 4 week online class from University of Wisconsin I school entitled: “Coding Together, Learning Together: Starting a Coding Club at Your Library” in November.

Four employees, Betty Chapman, Olivia Koerner, Chris Temple, and Ranea Bruce attended a Laconi workshop on November 16, 2017 on Teen Reader’s Advisory for Adult Services Librarians.

Bradley Public Library hosted the youth and general KALA meetings on December 7, 2017. Director DePatis gave a talk on Community Demographics at the general meeting. Bradley Public Library also hosted the youth KALA meeting on January 4, 2018.

Legal:

2018 meeting dates and fiscal year 2016-2017 audit availability notice was published in the Daily Journal.

Annual Receipts/Disbursements Report for fiscal year 2016-2017 was filed with the Kankakee County Clerk.

Annual Interlibrary Loan Report for fiscal year 2016-2017 was submitted to the Illinois State Library.

Directors and Officers Liability Insurance renewal had no increase over 2017.

Grants:

Fiscal year 2018 per capita grant application and fiscal year 2016 per capita expenditures report was filed and accepted by the Illinois State Library.

Building:

VCT tiles were cleaned and refinished Christmas weekend. Carpets were cleaned on January 13-14.

Tagging incident on January 10, 2018 in men’s restroom. Bradley police came and a police report was filed. Director DePatis will be talking to cleaners about repainting those areas.

Misc:

Completed inventory of children’s books including fiction, non-fiction, and picture books, teen fiction, adult fiction, large print, and audio books. Videos and non-fiction still need to be done.

Trustee Bayer finished weeding adult fiction and is now weeding adult non-fiction

Adult DVD’s are now being stored in locking hub cases. Blu-ray and series will still be in the carousels. Children’s non-fiction DVD’s have been moved to locking cases and fiction DVD’s will also be moved to locking cases.

Committee Reports

Friends of the Library:

The Friends of the Library met on December 6, 2017. Healthy Living series to resume in January. A spring craft show and book sale is scheduled for March some time before Easter. A blood drive is scheduled for December 27th from 2 to 6 pm. Next scheduled meeting will be February 7, 2018 at 6:30 pm.

New Business:

Trustee Benoit, secretary for the Bradley Public Library, has reviewed the closed meeting minutes and states that the minutes should remain closed.

Director DePatis informed the trustees that their statement of economic interest should be in their email shortly.

Moved by Trustee Grace, seconded by Trustee Fisher to adopt the updated sexual harassment policy that was distributed to each trustee.

Moved by Trustee Grace, seconded by Trustee Hendrickson to adopt Ordinance No. 18-1An Ordinance Adopting A Policy Prohibiting Sexual Harassment

Motion carried by roll call vote of 5 ayes, 0 nays and 2 absent

Moved by Trustee Fisher, seconded by Trustee Grace to adopt Circulation of Materials: Lending Policy update

Motion carried by roll call vote of 5 ayes, 0 nays and 2 absent

Communications

A thank you note was received from the Bradley Public Library staff. The thank you note was thanking the board for the holiday party dinner and for the bonus check that was given.

Trustee Hendrickson moved for adjournment at 6:43 pm

Next Bradley Public Library District Board meeting will be held

Wednesday February 14, 2018 at 6:00 pm
