Olivet Nazarene University Tigers Football issued the following announcement on June 11.
AUSTIN, Texas – Deirdre Gerke was selected by the College Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as a 2018 Second Team Google Cloud Academic All-America® College Division Men's and Women's At-Large Teams. Gerke helped lead the Olivet Nazarene University women's swimming and diving team to the University's first women's NAIA National Championship in 2017.
Gerke graduated in May with a degree in engineering, finishing with a 3.66 GPA. During her career, Gerke helped led the Tigers the University's first ever women's NAIA National Championship in 2017. During Gerke's four seasons, the Tigers captured one title( 2017), while adding two runner-up finishes (2016 and 2018).
Individually Gerke finished her career as a 16-time NAIA All-American. In 2018, Gerke reached to top level of the podium three times, helping the Tigers capture titles in the 200 Freestyle Relay, 400 Medley Relay and the 400 Freestyle Relay. She also added a fourth place finish in the 500 Freestyle. As a junior, Gerke captured national championships in the 200 Freestyle Relay and the 200 Medley Relay, adding three more top-three relay finishes. She helped lead ONU to five relay top-three finishes in 2016 and another in 2015.
Gerke was also a two-time NAIA-Daktronics Scholar-Athlete.
The Google Cloud Academic All-America® College Division At-Large Teams includes student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions.
The at-large program for the CoSIDA Academic All-America® program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo for both men and women; bowling, crew and field hockey for women; and volleyball and wrestling for men.
The Google Cloud Academic All-America® College Division Women's At-Large Team produced an average GPA of 3.97 with the first team combining for an average GPA of 3.99. The team includes 13 student-athletes with 4.0 GPA or higher.
