Essex Fire Protection District responded to 28 calls in 2017 - 28.2 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Essex included 24 fires - 15 structure fires, one vehicle fire and eight other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

The department also received three false calls.

The Essex Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $315,526 in 2016.
