Manteno FD responds to 44 fires in 2017

Manteno Fire Department responded to 172 calls in 2017 - 1.8 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Manteno included 44 fires - 20 structure fires, seven vehicle fires and 17 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $125,200 in fire loss - or about $2,845 per fire.

The department also received 127 false calls, including three malicious calls and 124 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury.

The Manteno Fire Department had an annual budget of $3,443,979 in 2017.

The Manteno Community FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 22 active employees and 10 retired or inactive employees, was $56,084 in debt as of May 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $1,753 for every fire in 2016.
