Momence Community Unit School District 1 students suspended 43 times in a single school year

Momence Community Unit School District 1 reported 43 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 43 students during the year. That equates to 3.8 percent of the 1,128 students enrolled.

Of the 23 in-school suspensions, all were given to boys, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 17 incidents. There were six incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 16 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 20 out-of-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 11 incidents. There were eight incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For seven incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
