Bradley Elementary School District 61 students suspended 302 times in a single school year

Bradley Elementary School District 61 reported 302 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 302 students during the year. That equates to 19.8 percent of the 1,523 students enrolled.

Of the 161 in-school suspensions, 141 were given to boys and 20 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 152 incidents. There were nine incidents of violence without physical injury. For 105 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 141 out-of-school suspensions, 126 were given to boys and 15 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 92 incidents. There were 25 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 58 incidents, students were suspended for 1-3 days.
