BOURBONNAIS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 53: Race to Save Young Lives

Suicide

Bourbonnais Elementary School District No. 53 issued the following announcement on Sept. 13.

Bourbonnais Upper Grade Center is offering depression awareness and suicide prevention training as a part of the SOS Signs of Suicide® Prevention Program next Tuesday, September 18th and Thursday, September 20th.

Our goals in participating in this program are straightforward:

To help our students understand that depression is a treatable illness

To explain that suicide is a preventable tragedy that often occurs as a result of untreated depression

To provide students training in how to identify serious depression and potential suicidality in themselves or a friend

To impress upon students that they can help themselves or a friend by taking the simple step of talking to a responsible adult about their concerns

To help students know whom in the school they can turn to for help, if they need it

Parents need to check their email to find more information on this program. You may also check out Elyssa's Mission website which has provided all the materials for this presentation at http://www.elyssasmission.org/
