City of Kankakee issued the following announcement on Nov. 11.
The City of Kankakee has a large veterans population. With over 8,000 veterans throughout Kankakee County, we want to acknowledge your personal sacrifice. Thank you for taking the time away from your families to train, serve, and protect the freedoms often taken for granted by many.
Today we acknowledge all our veterans and hope you enjoy the community's efforts to show appreciation to all of you with discounted and free meals at select restaurants. Furthermore, the City of Kankakee is fortunate to have a Veterans Assistance Commission (VAC) located in downtown Kankakee. The VAC provides services to assist with medical claims, education, workforce training benefits, and other programs.
