City of Kankakee issued the following announcement on Jan. 27.
Warming shelters are available at the Civic Auditorium and Metro buses. The Kankakee Valley Park district, City of Kankakee Police, and the County Emergency Management Coordinator are working together to see if an additional warming center can be opened in the city of Kankakee at the KVPD Rec Center.
This evening, overnight shelter provided by Fortitude Community Outreach will be held at Central Christian Church located at 310 Main St. Northwest Bourbonnais from 4 PM to 7 AM. Dinner will be provided and if the police encounter anyone seeking a warm location after 7 PM, they will be allowed into the shelter only with a police escort.
