Former state school employee Olson paid in $35K to teachers' pension fund, could collect $785K in retirement

Former state school employee Mary Olson, who retired in April 2017, saved $35,272 toward a pension over 8 years working for public schools, Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Olson would collect as much as $784,571, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Kankakee Times.

The projection assumes Olson received $16,491 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 3 years of retirement, Olson will have already received $50,973 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
