KANKAKEE COUNTY SHERIFF: 2 Area Men Arrested on Federal Weapons Charges
Kankakee County Sheriff issued the following announcement on July 18.
Two Hopkins Park, Illinois men were arrested Monday evening by Kankakee ATF Task Force Agents on federal weapon charges.
Jeremiah Hill, 30, and Albert Willis, 57, both of Hopkins Park, were arrested by ATF Special Agents Monday evening in Hopkins Park for being felons in possession of a firearms.
Willis was indicted by a federal grand jury in May of this year for being a felon in possession of a firearm and Hill was charged by Criminal Complaint charging him with possessing firearms by a felon. Hill’s case is set for Grand Jury next month where he will likely face additional charges. Both men made their initial court appearance in federal court in Urbana on Wednesday. The 4 month investigation into Hill netted 11 firearms. Hill was prior convictions for Burglary and Robbery. If convicted he faces up to 15 years in federal prison. If convicted Willis faces up to 15 years in federal prison.
The charges on this case are the result of ongoing investigations related to gun violence in the Kankakee and Hopkins Park area by the Kankakee ATF Task Force. The task force includes the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and investigators with the Kankakee City Police Department working in cooperation with the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Central District of Illinois and The Kankakee County State’s Attorney’s Office. Assisting in the investigation was the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office and the Kankakee Gang Enforcement Unit. The cases are being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Bryan Freres and Elly Pierson.
“The relationships that we have forged with federal agencies have undoubtedly been beneficial to the Kankakee County communities,” said Sheriff Mike Downey. “Being able to remove these guns from our streets and out of the hands of these dangerous individuals will most certainly have an impact and will help us keep our streets safe.”
