Co-sponsored by State Sen. Jason Barickman (R-Bloomington), House Bill 2583 paves the way for river conservancy districts to update their names to more accurately reflect the areas that they represent.
The bill also allows those districts to take on new names as part of any expansion plans.
"Many of these districts have expanded, including across county lines, but their name doesn’t accurately describe their scope of work or territory of operation," Barickman said in a press release. “This is a small change in statute, but one that will help with the missions of the various districts.”
Barickman has now served in Springfield for six years. His 53rd District includes Ford, Iroquois, Livingston, McLean, Vermilion and Woodford counties.
