Illinois state Rep. Lindsay Parkhurst (R-Kankakee) has announced she will not be seeking a second term in Springfield.
“It is with bittersweet emotion to announce that I will not run for state representative in 2020,” Parkhurst posted on Twitter.
A lawyer by trade who has represented the 79th District since 2017, Parkhurst will instead be running for a judicial post.
“Being a judge is a dream and a goal I've had since law school, and I am thrilled by the opportunity to run for judge,” she said in her post. “It is the pinnacle of any legal career.”
Parkhurst said she plans to finish out her term and that she is proud of the things she’s been able to accomplish during her time in Springfield. She added that she’s excited by the thought of her next venture.
“I believe my skills and commitment to public service will be best served on the bench at this time in my legal career," she said.
The 79th District includes all or parts of Kankakee, Bourbonnais, Bradley, Essex, Hopkins Park, Peotone, Herscher and Braceville.
