Grant funding is now available to eligible Illinois child care providers to help them reopen in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis.
The $270 million Child Care Restoration Grants program was created by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and the Illinois Department of Human Services, a release issued on state Rep. Margo McDermed's (R-Dist. 37) website said.
While McDermed acknowledged that some providers caring for the children of those deemed to be essential workers have been able to stay in operation during the crisis, others have been forced to shut down completely.
The program will give priority to child care providers serving clients in “disproportionately impacted areas,” the release said.
To be eligible for the grant program, a provider must have a current license with the Department of Children and Family Services, be open and caring for children when they apply for the grant, and be able to show that their business was interrupted by the COVID-19 crisis.
