Kankakee Township Fire Protection District responded to 65 calls in 2018 - 116.7 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Kankakee included 29 fires - 22 structure fires, three vehicle fires and four other fires.

The department also received 36 false calls.

The Kankakee Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 49 active employees and 82 retired or inactive employees, was $2,230,806 in debt as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $111,540 for every fire in 2017.
