Rep. Lindsay Parkhurst said schools need to open in Illinois, after Joliet State Senate candidate Meg Cappel continues to vote in favor of keeping schools closed.
"This is crazy," Parkhurst wrote on Facebook.
"We need to open our schools. Joliet State Senate candidate, Meg Cappel, voted 3 times, as a JTHS board member, to keep Joliet Township High Schools closed. She espouses schools must remain remote because it is too dangerous for teachers and students to learn in person, but within seven days of that vote, Cappel had emails sent to the same teachers requesting they campaign for her by walking door to door for an hourly wage. Really?" said Parkhurst in the post.
While Cappel wants schools to stay closed because it is too dangerous to open, she had teachers going door-to-door for her campaign.
"I find this duplicitous messaging that it is too unsafe for teachers to be in a classroom, but safe enough to walk door to door... alarming...If the AFT thinks it is safe enough to have teachers out campaigning, why can they not be in classrooms?" State Senate Candidate Thomas McCullagh said, according to quotation from Parkhurst on Facebook.
