State Rep. Jackie Haas (R-Kankakee) said she is disappointed with the House Rules that would be adopted by the Illinois House of Representatives, explaining that they're no different from the rules under former Speaker of the House Mike Madigan.
Haas voted no on Wednesday in which the House voted 77-44.
“The rules that passed today, passed very much by the majority party and it’s very disappointing that it's not too much different than what we would have seen under the Madigan administration,” Haas stated. “So, although, were very grateful to be here in person and able to vote in person I don’t think we’re going to see much change from what we saw last year which is my biggest fear.”
She and other Republicans wanted changes on the House Rules including “rights of members to have their bills called in committee,” “notice to the members and public on what will be up for action in committee and on the floor,” “create waiting period for floor amendments, concurrence and budget bills,” and “increase the ability of members to debate legislation on the house floor.”
The suggested changes from the other side of the aisle remained no more than proposals.
Madigan ruled the House for 36 years of the past 38 years.
