District | Recognition Liz Scott applied for and was awarded grant money ($745.96) from the RAILS library system for their "My Library is....School Library" Grant. The grant program was specifically designed to highlight school libraries and their impact on students. The program we applied with is next year's KSD/KPL Young Author's Competition. Some highlights of the program are:
● Printing posters to hang throughout the schools to promote the competition using art teachers to create fun and eye-catching designs. ● Printing similarly designed bookmarks to hand out to remind students of the contest and its rules; ● Printing stickers as incentives to give to those students who turn in manuscripts; ● Purchasing age-appropriate books for each library discussing the writing process and encouraging imagination; ● Partnering with Kankakee Public Library to assist with promotion (they will also be provided posters and bookmarks); ● Holding creative writing enrichment "clubs" at schools and at KPL to assist students. ● Having library/resource center/success center staff promoting the contest and collecting the manuscripts.

Ellie Rorabough, the 5th Grade Science Magnet Teacher, was a Passage Reviewer for the Illinois Assessment of Readiness. She reviewed passages and collaborated to determine if the passages met grade-level expectations and if the tasks assigned were aligned to the standards paired with each passage. Patricia Ferris, Learning Partner, served on the New Meridian ELA Passage Bias & Sensitivity Review Committee to ensure that Illinois Assessment of Readiness content is of the highest possible level of quality and adheres to all the specifications determined by ISBE. She has also been selected as a Virtual Instructional Coach for new teachers in the state of Illinois, sponsored by IFT, IEA, and ISBE. Tracy Selock, 5th/6th Grade Gifted Teacher, joined 19 educators from across the country to work with Facebook to develop an educational division that focuses on teacher wellness. We are proud of each of these amazing educators!
