Kankakee School District 111 Board of Education met Dec. 6.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The special Board of Education meeting of Kankakee School District No. 111, Kankakee County, Illinois, was held at 5:12 pm in the auditorium at Lincoln Cultural Center 240 Warren Ave, Kankakee, IL 60901.

ROLL CALL

Members Present: Mary Archie

Chris Bohlen

Deb Johnston

Tracy Verrett, Board Secretary

Darrell Williams, Board Vice President

Barbara Wells, Board President

Members Absent: Jess Gathing (Joined via conference call at 5:13 pm)

A quorum was declared present.

Closed Session

At 5:12 pm, a motion was made by Bohlen, seconded by Johnston, to adjourn to closed session to discuss the

➢ Collective negotiating matters between the public body and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees

➢ The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees, specific individuals who serve as independent contractors, or specific volunteers of the district, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee, a specific individual who serves as an independent contractor, or volunteer of the District or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity. ROLL CALL VOTE-Ayes: Archie, Bohlen, Gathing, Johnston, Verrett, Williams, and Wells, Nays: none. Motion carried.

The closed session was adjourned at 6:06 pm.

At 6:09 pm., the regular session was reconvened.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Barbara Wells, Board President.

Dr. Genevra Walters, Superintendent

Rachel Thornton, Recording Secretary

Chris Break from the Daily Journal was present.

Superintendent’s Report

❖ COVID-19:

➢ The current number of students and adults that are both positive and quarantined as of August 2021 are as follows:

➢ Dr. Walters discussed the current COVID numbers and the struggle of contact tracing. Ms. Fountain discussed buildings that currently have classrooms quarantined. Dr. Walters discussed the recommendation and clarified that if parents choose to send their students to school five days a week, they do have that option.

Action Items

1. Approval to Modify Learning Options Due to Rising COVID Numbers

A motion was made by Williams, seconded by Johnston, to approve the modified learning options due to rising COVID numbers as presented. ROLL CALL VOTE- AYES: Archie, Bohlen, Gathing, Johnston, Verett, Williams, and Wells. Nays: none. Motion carried.

At 6:34 pm, a motion was made by Bohlen, seconded by Williams, to adjourn the meeting. All ayes; motion carried.
