Kankakee Times recently had an opportunity to interview Frederick L. Walls who is running for State Representative in the 34th District.

Walls, 50, works as a union journeyman carpenter for Walsh Construction Company. He attended Calumet and Hillcrest High Schools from 1986 – 1990 and graduated after four years of trade school at the Chicago Regional Counsel of Carpenters. He grew up on the south side of Chicago until the age of 16, at which time he moved with his parents to the suburbs of Country Club Hills, IL.

According to Ballotpedia, Walls is running against Nicholas K. Smith. Smith has held the seat since February 2018.

Ballotpedia notes that the district had a population of 105,993 during the 2020 Census. It breaks down that population in the following way: Gender 46.7% Male 53.3% Female Race 29.5% White 59.7% Black 0.4% Asian 0.3% Native American 0% Pacific Islander

Q: Why did you decide to run for the state legislature?

Walls: "I was forced to run for office because of bills like HB 156, SB 818 and SB 1169. SB 818 is an attack on the biblical family structure. HB 156, along with HB 3195 is a total waste of taxpayers’ money and has nothing to do with reading, writing and arithmetic. SB 1169 infringes on religious beliefs as the last part of Romans 14:23 states, 'for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.'"

Q: How much did you pay for your last tank of gas? How did you feel about it?

Walls: "I drive a Ford F-150. It’s costing me between $85-$95 to fill up my tank due to the shutting down of the pipelines by Joe Biden. This is an unnecessary hardship."

Q: What's the first bill you will sponsor in Springfield?

Walls: "When I am elected, the first bill I will push to repeal is SB 1169. I work with someone who was pressured into taking the Corona vaccine. She shared with me how her family and friends told her if she cared for them, then she would get vaccinated. She did. She said ten minutes after she received her first dose, her face swelled up and she is having problems to this day. So, I am running for The House of Representatives seat in the 34th District to be a voice for people like my coworker, and for children in the public school system."
