The city council of Kankakee recently marked the retirement of Officer Morgan Golden, one of the longest standing female officers in the city’s police department.

Golden retired on Jan. 4 after serving in the department for 27 years, as discussed at the Jan. 3 city council meeting.

“She was a detective for several years up there and she did a great job,” Police Chief Robin Passwater said at the meeting. “She did a lot of work with cases involving children who have been abused or women who have been abused, through child networking, doing some stuff with them. But she's had a good career. We're going to miss her because she's got her own kind of style with us. So she's pretty unique.”

Golden passed 27 years of service in the department in late December of 2022 and choose to retire on Jan. 4 in honor of her father’s birthday.

Passwater stated that there were very few people in the community that didn’t know Golden from some event or another and that she was one of the nicest people in the whole department.

Golden thanked the council, department and community for their support. She recalled coming to work and not knowing anyone in the community, but said she was able to quickly make so many friends through a variety of connections.
