TIGERS ROLL TO BIG WIN BEHIND SCHMIDT’S CAREER NIGHT

The Olivet Nazarene University men's basketball team cruised to a big 100-67 win over Judson Wednesday night to stay in the hunt for the CCAC regular season crown. The win marks the fourth time ONU has scored 100 points or more in a game this season.

The Tigers were led by Tyler Schmidt, who matched a career-high with 35 points to lead all scorers. The junior guard from Valparaiso, Ind. shot a scorching 13-of-17 from the floor and knocked down three triples, while also contributing eight rebounds and four assists.

Schmidt had plenty of help. Sam Emich went 6-of-10 from the floor to fill in 14 points while Barik Olden chipped 12. Braydon Flagg came off the bench to net 12 points.

In total, 11 Tigers found the scoresheet in the win, the highest total of ONU scorers in a single game this season.

ONU used quick scoring and stellar defense to quickly take control of the game. By the time Judson (5-20, 3-14 CCAC) got on the scoreboard three-and-a-half minutes into the action, ONU had already put up eight points. Shortly after, Schmidt knocked down a pair of free throws and then converted on a layup to put ONU up double-digits.

The Eagles were able to knock the deficit down to eight points with eight minutes to play in the first half. But that was when Emich connected for seven-straight points to ignite a game-altering 18-3 run that virtually put the game away.

The Tigers headed into the halftime locker room up 45-24. The outcome was never in question in the second half.

The win improves ONU to 19-6 overall and 14-3 in conference play. The Tigers are just one game out of first place in the CCAC standings with three games to play.
