City of Momence City Council met Sept. 18.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

The City Council Meeting of the City of Momence was held in the Council Chambers at 29 North Dixie Highway, Momence.

ROLL CALL

Roll was called by the Clerk with Aldermen Doody, Vela, Clark, Fordahl, Cook and Lesyna present. Aldermen Huddleston and Temple were absent.

APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES

Alderman Doody noted the day was incorrect on previous meeting minutes. Alderman Lesyna made motion to approve the minutes of September 4 with correction. Alderman Clark seconded the motion with Aldermen Doody, Clark, Fordahl and Lesyna voting yes. Aldermen Vela and Cook passed.

APPROVAL OF THE BILLS

Alderman Doody made motion to approve the bills for payment. Alderman Vela seconded the motion with Aldermen Doody, Vela, Clark, Fordahl, Cook and Lesyna voting yes.

CITIZENS FORUM – Matthew Jones requesting a gaming and pour license for Berkot’s, to help offset the rising costs. They are having trouble competing with bigger stores and Amazon. Owner is wanting to improve the store exterior, profits from the gaming would also help to pay for those expenses. The gaming room would be 100% secure, privacy for the players. The room would be locked, would require staff to allow entrance to room. The hours would remain the same as the regular store hours. Mayor indicated at this time; this would not be possible. He is requesting management make some changes to staffing at the store. Once this is improved upon, then invited back to bring before the council again. Mayor also mentioned to the check the liquor license to make sure they are incompliance with everything prior to applying for the pour license.

Vicki Thorn – complaints on water shutoff by the city in her building. The water was shut off on 07/05/23, which she feels was not appropriate. City did connect a temporary line per the mayor. Vicki is insisting that the city is responsible for all repairs to the water line in her building. Mayor disagreed, made notification to Vicki that she had 30 days to put a new line in or would be disconnected from the temporary line. She was asked to leave the meeting.

Aldermanic –

Alderman Clark – complaints on golf carts – no stickers, illegal street driving, kids driving. Chief Siemson will be enforcing the rules on golf carts

MAYORAL REPORT –

Clarifier at the sewer plant is down, bids are in for the clarifier, possible $230,000.00. It appears to be fixable, but will need to be replaced in the near future.

Alderman Cook made motion to adjourn. Alderman Doody seconded the motion Aldermen Doody, Vela, Clark, Fordahl and Lesyna voting yes
