Colton Ekhoff, a candidate for the position of Kankakee Auditor and current Kankakee County Board Member for District 2, recently marked the five-year anniversary of his swearing-in as a county board member. Ekhoff expressed his appreciation for the chance to represent not only Grant Park and Momence but also the entire Kankakee County.

He shared his reflections on his tenure as a board member in a Facebook post.

“I am proud of my work in helping to turn county government around and for my conservative voting record,” Ekhoff said on Facebook.

“For example, I have voted against property and sales tax increases, supported our law enforcement and public safety professionals, and fought for a smaller yet more efficient government. I have been challenged with many tough votes over the years, but I always vote my conscience on what I believe is best for my constituents and what is ethically right.”

“In addition, as a board member I have also had the honor of helping negotiate several union contracts and being assigned to four of the board’s more prestigious committees: Executive, Criminal Justice, Planning and Zoning, and Finance which I currently serve as the Chairman of. The Finance committee oversees the county’s 40-million-dollar annual budget and establishes financial policies that helped the county navigate through record inflation and troubling national and state economic woes. I feel confident that these experiences and many more have prepared me to take on even bigger responsibilities and duties.”

“I look forward to continuing to work for my constituents, collaborating with other countywide elected and appointed officials and making Kankakee County a better place for all of us! Have a great Sunday everyone!”

The primary, scheduled for March 19, will see Ekhoff competing against incumbent Auditor Jacob M. “Jake” Lee, shaping the future leadership of the Auditor’s office and offering voters a choice in the direction for Kankakee County. Ekhoff has adopted the campaign slogan, “Action not absence,” Kankakee Times reported.

According to information available on Ekhoff’s campaign website, District 2 covers the entirety of the City of Momence except for the west side of Elm up to the Junior High. It also includes Sumner Township from 11000 East to 5000 East, extending from County Line Road to 6000 North.

The upcoming March 19 primary holds significance for Illinois voters as it involves electing local representatives and participating in the nomination process for presidential candidates from both Democratic and Republican parties. As noted by WTTW, this primary will also determine who will represent Illinois at party conventions scheduled for August.
