Kankakee County taxpayers paid the 29th largest sum in sales taxes in September, according to Illinois tax records.

In total, Kankakee County residents paid $606,108 in sales taxes during September.

Kankakee County ranked 34th in the Prairie State the month before, with $510,845 spent in sales taxes.

The Countywide Sales Tax accounted for the largest share of sales taxes paid by Kankakee County residents in September.

Illinois is currently the highest taxed state in the US. A study from Wallet Hub found Illinois taxes are 39.83% higher than the national average.
