FOIA Request to Abingdon City Council Regarding Council Members' Details on October 15, 2024.
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Kankakee Times have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Abingdon City Council in Illinois. The request was sent on October 15, 2024.
In our quest for transparency and accountability in public institutions, we requested specific records pertaining to the council members of the Abingdon City Council. These records include the names of all council members, their respective titles, the year they were appointed, their term length (2 or 4 years), and their term expiry dates.
We believe that access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. By obtaining this information, we aim to keep our readers informed about their local government's structure and operations.
As a media organization, we also requested a fee waiver for this information under the provisions of the Illinois Freedom of Information Act. We maintain that as journalists committed to disseminating information to the public, we are eligible for such waivers.
