FOIA Request to Watseka City Council Regarding Detailed Information of Council Members on October 15, 2024.
In a bid to promote transparency and accountability in local government affairs, we at Kankakee Times have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Watseka City Council. The request was made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, on October 15, 2024.
The information sought pertains to the list of all council members serving in the Watseka City Council. Specifically, we requested for details such as their names, titles, years of appointment, term lengths (whether they are serving a two or four-year term), and the dates when their terms expire.
As a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, access to public records is crucial for us. This enables us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
We believe that as media professionals involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver. We eagerly await the response from the Watseka City Council regarding this request.
