FOIA Request to City Of Kankakee Regarding Building Permits on October 30, 2024.
The Kankakee Times, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, has submitted a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140) for records pertaining to residential and commercial building permits in the city of Kankakee.
The request specifically asks for a list of all new residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, up until the present date. The requested information includes the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address of the property, and contractor's name.
In addition to this, we are also seeking information about all active residential and commercial building permits along with their current status. Similar details such as type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address of the property and contractor's name have been asked for these active permits as well.
As a media organization focused on governmental affairs reporting, access to public records is essential for us at Kankakee Times. This allows us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information to the public at large we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
