City of Watseka City Council met Jan. 7.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

Special Called City Council Meeting

Mayor Allhands called the meeting to order at 6:30pm. Present were Alderman Anderson, Muench, Cahoe, Marcier, Barragree, Miller, and Alderwoman DeLahr & Rohlfs

Public Comment-None

Discussion and Possible action on Police Chief Salary and Transition of new Police Chief with Nita Dubble in attendance. Lots of discussion was had on this. Mayor Allhands said that he will sit back, if it were him he would appoint Eric Starkey but the rest of the council would like to discuss this more. The mayor stated that the offer letter was not sent. Alderman Marcier said that he put some information in everyone’s mailbox Police Chief’s salaries in IL or local US spots. Alderwoman DeLahr stated that the city has set a precedence with Jeremy’s salary this person takes on all the liability we are staying within that range, she also mentioned the Public Works Director salary, and Alderman Marcier spoke up and said that has nothing do to with this. Alderwoman DeLahr said we cannot go any lower, she asked what the paperwork was for, are we overpaying our current chief or what. More discussion was had that the new Chief would follow the union contract 7-7-5. More discussion was had on the range and moving expenses, Alderwoman DeLahr did the numbers so negotiations can be made, she shared that this candidate has the credentials and experience. Alderman Marcier shared that we went to high can we afford this candidate. Lots more discussion was had on the salary and benefits. The council agreed to $123,000.00 and up to $2500 in moving expenses, 3 personal days, sick time will go by the city of Watseka handbook, and they will offer 2 weeks’ vacation. An offer letter needs to be made and signed.

Executive Session to discuss compensation of a specific employee.

A Motion was made by Marcier, seconded by Miller to go into Executive Session at 7:02pm. Motion passed 8-0.

A Motion was made by Barragree, seconded by Marcier to exit Executive Session at 7:07pm. Motion passed 8-0.

A Motion was made by Cahoe, seconded by Muench Police Chief Extension with an additional $2.87 per hour effective 1/21/2025 until 3/1/2025. Motion passed 8-0.

Alderman Marcier shared that next Tues. 14th is Jeremy’s last day, the 20th is his final as he is using 6 vacation days. Alderman Marcier spoke to him about staying on a bit longer until March, this will be a 6-week extension. Alderman Marcier did ask Nita if there is another candidate if the offer that was proposed is not excepted, she said yes there is.

A Motion was made by Cahoe, seconded by Marcier to adjourn at 7:16pm. Motion passed 8-0.
