Following the recent State of the State Address, State Representative Jackie Haas from Kankakee expressed her dissatisfaction with Governor Pritzker's speech. Rep. Haas criticized the address for being overly partisan and focusing on national issues rather than fostering non-partisan cooperation.
Rep. Haas stated, "I am incredibly disappointed by Governor Pritzker’s partisan and divisive State of the State and Budget Address." She emphasized that it should have been a time for collaboration but turned into what she described as a political show.
Haas further addressed concerns regarding Illinois' budgeting practices. She highlighted warnings from the House Republican Caucus about unsustainable practices, noting that Illinois Democrats have not engaged in discussions to find common-sense solutions. According to Rep. Haas, without proposed revenue increases by the governor, Illinois is facing a $425 million deficit that could grow further.
She remarked, "Instead of addressing that, Governor Pritzker is using smoke and mirrors to disguise a bad spending habit as a ‘balanced budget’."
In response to these issues, Rep. Haas committed to opposing future tax hikes and advocating for a balanced budget aimed at benefiting all residents.
