U.S. Representative Robin Kelly used her social media platform on September 7, 2025, to address issues related to suicide prevention, healthcare costs, and the importance of Medicaid for American families.
In a post marking Suicide Prevention Month, Kelly wrote, "This Suicide Prevention Month, it's time to talk about the gun epidemic that is claiming too many lives in America. 58% of suicides are committed using a gun. Through conversations and secure gun storage, we can interrupt access and reduce the number of preventable deaths." (September 7, 2025).
Later that day, she criticized legislation passed during Donald Trump's presidency regarding its impact on household expenses. She stated on September 7, "A promise made should be kept. But the Big Ugly Law that President Trump passed is doing the opposite of what was promised. It's not lowering costs for families; it's making healthcare, food, and utilities more expensive. This is a clear betrayal of the American people."
In another message posted on September 7, Kelly expressed gratitude toward a constituent who shared his family's experiences with Medicaid: "Thank you, Javiel, for sharing your strength, your story, and your family’s journey with me. It was wonderful to meet you, Kairo, and Kairo’s dad. Medicaid serves as a lifeline for many families, including yours, and Congress has the responsibility to improve healthcare — not"
Robin Kelly has represented Illinois in Congress since winning a special election in 2013 and has consistently secured re-election by wide margins over several cycles: defeating Thomas Lynch in 2022 with over two-thirds of the vote; Theresa Raborn in 2020; David Merkle in 2018; John Morrow in 2016; and Eric Wallace in 2014.
